Wildflowers & Scenic Drives - Perth Hills

The Perth Hills National Parks Centre, near Mundaring Weir is a great place to begin your visit to the Perth Hills. The visitor centre is open 7 days-a-week from 10am until 4pm and stocks a range of helpful maps, guides and great souvenirs.

John
Forrest National Park

John Forrest National Park is one of Australia's oldest conservation areas and Western Australia's first national park. Sweeping views across to the city can be enjoyed from an excellent lookout area, and you’ll be amazed at the wonderful mix of wildflowers in bloom all year round. The interestingly named twenty-eight parrot is regularly seen in the National Park.

Towering Jarrah and Marri dominate the upland areas, with flooded gums and paperbarks along Jane Brook. The understorey is a treasure trove of Banksia, wattle, Hakeas, Grevilleas, Dryandras, Pimelea, myrtles, triggerplants, kangaroo paws and blue Lechenaultia.

Visits to Hovea Falls, Rocky Pool and National Park Falls are recommended.

 

Directions/Information

  • 28km east of Perth
  • Travel on the Great Eastern Highway.
  • Entrance to the western side of the park is available off Great Eastern Highway as you head towards Mundaring (just near Bilgoman Pool/Darlington Road).
  • Admission $9.00 per car

 

Walking Trails

  • Glen Brook Trail Loop (easy 2.2km or 45 mins) – an easy walk through the National Park with scenic views over Glenbrook Dam.
  • Eagle View Walk Trail Loop (hard 15km or 5.5 hours) – a bushwalkers delight, covering a variety of relatively pristine habitats and less explored destinations in John Forrest National Park. Requirement to register with the ranger before leaving on your walk and on your return.


Gooseberry
Hill National Park

This hilly, 33-ha reserve has magnificent views of the Swan Coastal Plain. A one-way scenic drive, known as the Zig-Zag, leads downhill through the park and provides amazing photography and bird watching opportunities.

  • Take Gooseberry Hill Road, turn left into Williams Street/Lascelles Parade.

Walking Trails


Greenmount
National Park

This is a 56-hectare national park of Marri, Jarrah and Wandoo forest on the slope of Greenmount Hill overlooking Perth and the Swan coastal plain offering great opportunities for bushwalking, wildlife observation, sightseeing and photography.

 

Directions/Information

  • Travel down Darlington Road, via Oxley and Padbury Roads.


 
 
Kalamunda
National Park

This 375-hectare national park is notable for its diversity of native plants.

Piesse Brook runs through the park and the rising slopes of its valley are covered with an open woodland of Jarrah, Marri, Wandoo and butter gum.

Walk Trails

  • There are several walk trails through the park, including the first stage of the Bibbulmun Track, a long-distance walk trail from Perth to Albany.

 Lesmurdie Falls National Park

The Lesmurdie Brook flows through the centre of the park and tumbles 50 metres over the sheer face of the Darling Scarp.Visitors will have fantastic opportunites for Bushwalking, picnicking, wildlife observation, photography. Waterfalls, city views and seasonal wildflowers.

Walking Trails


 Lake Leschenaultia

Managed by the Shire of Mundaring, this beautiful lake is set among tall Jarrah and Marri forest. There are picnic areas and swimming facilities with walk trails that run around the lake's shore or through the forested areas.


 
 
Mundaring
National Park

Situated to the west of Mundaring Weir Road in the Shires of Kalamunda and Mundaring, this 3000 ha park includes the popular recreation sites of Fred Jacoby Park, North Ledge, Farrell Grove and South Ledge.

The Golden View Lookout, located at South Ledge, provides panoramic views over Lake CY O’Connor, the Helena River Valley and the Mundaring Weir. The Lower Helena Bridle Trail, and the Bibbulmun Track all pass through the park. In spring the wildflowers are glorious.
